Our client was a long time subscriber to a single CDN. When that particular CDN had an extended service degradation that impacted their business, they reached out to us to help identify a solution to mitigate such risks. Our approach was to leverage multiple CDNs.The solution had to allow for unified configuration and automatic traffic routing based on a series of metrics including price, performance, etc.
The first step was to work with the client on determining which CDNs to utilize. After comparing features, value, and price, two CDNs were selected. Our developers focused on building a tool to easily manage, purge, report, and administer both CDNs. Our engineers focused on developing a DNS-based routing solution that could distribute traffic between both CDNs based on our clients’ specifications.
